#lakedistrict #navigation It's dusk in January in the Langale valley and I am setting off with 5 others into rough mountain terrain armed with a map showing contours only. Yes that is Harrison stickle in the background, not Pike o' stickle! This is under the guidance of renowned Guide Chris Ensoll. Chris leads up steep terrain and the map, without paths, water or any other features needs careful attention. But the result along with Mountain lore from Chris is much deeper insight into the subtleties of navigation. In their own words from the site: www.chrisensoll.com This is a great opportunity for you to take your poor visibility navigation skills to the next level, and it is perfect as a refresher before an assessment. We’ll start off in the light to let you get tuned in, and then navigate into darkness. You’ll learn how to navigate using the shape of the ground with contour-only maps, and then transfer this knowledge back to normal maps, again focusing primarily on the shape of the ground. This will really sharpen your navigation skills so that you no longer rely on line features, such as streams, walls and paths, which can all change. Open to trainees and award holders of Mountain Leader, Lowland Leader, Hill & Moorland Leader, Hill & Mountain Skills, and anyone with comparable personal experience. I am raising funds to buy an emergency beacon to help keep myself and the youngsters including Scouts I take out. Thanks! https://www.buymeacoffee.com/fellmandave
