Walking along the beach from Seamill towards Portencross Castle on a drizzly November day is a quiet, almost haunting experience, but there’s a certain charm to the greyness of it all. The air is damp and thick, misting up your view across the Firth of Clyde. The sand underfoot feels cold and compacted from the moisture, and small pebbles dot the shore, slick with seaweed in shades of brown. The muted light gives everything a softened, almost washed-out quality. As you move further along the coast, heading towards Portencross Castle, the drizzle continues, falling gently but persistently. There’s a rawness to the landscape, made starker by the bare branches of coastal shrubs and the tang of salt in the air. The castle emerges slowly as you approach, an ancient silhouette against the greyscale sky. It stands solid and sombre, its stone walls darkened by the rain, with the brooding North Ayrshire landscape stretching behind it. After taking in the view, the return journey turns inland along a track past the West Kilbride Golf Club. This part of the walk is a touch less rugged but equally drenched in drizzle, the grass on the fairways glistening with tiny water droplets. Getting back to the beach involved cutting directly across the gold course on the pedestrian path. By the time you reach your starting point, you’re damp but invigorated, having taken in the quiet, moody beauty of the Scottish coast in late autumn. -------------- Tartan Wonderland is dedicated to showing you the most beautiful videos of Scotland and occasionally locations outwith.
