Preacher vs Content Creator 🥶 Modern Preaching or Business of Religion ?
In recent years, modern Sikh preaching has taken a new form, with many self-proclaimed preachers using digital platforms to spread their messages. While some genuinely promote Sikh values, Gurbani, and Sikh history, others seem to prioritize personal fame over true spiritual guidance. Social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok have given rise to influencers who claim to be Sikh preachers but often mix entertainment with spirituality.
A concerning trend is the commercialization of Sikh preaching, where some individuals gain followers and wealth in the name of Sikhi. They promote personal brands, sell merchandise, and even accept donations, sometimes without true accountability. While traditional Sikh preachers focused on seva (selfless service) and Gurmat (Guru’s teachings), many modern influencers focus on gaining likes, views, and sponsorships.
Furthermore, controversial statements and sensationalism have become common strategies to attract attention. Some so-called Sikh preachers engage in debates, create unnecessary divisions, and even manipulate Sikh history to fit their narratives. This raises the question: Is modern Sikh preaching truly about spreading Sikhi, or is it about personal fame and financial gain? While technology is a great tool for education, true Sikh preaching should remain rooted in humility, truth, and the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
