The question of free will vs predestination (Calvinism vs Arminianism) is one of the most contraversial topics in church academic circles. However, it is not merely an academic exercise but forms the basis of our entire belief system as to how we are saved, and how we must live our lives. The two beliefs are rarely discussed in the open, but creates two very different types of Christians. Our belief in this area affects our attitude of prayer, effectiveness in evangelism, and the way we view and deal with sin. The book of Romans contain a number of "Calvinist verses", but upon closer inspection is it really saying what it looks like it is saying, or is there more to the surface of the text?
