PREPARING TO BE HOMELESS

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Since I've begun this channel many have commented that they are either in the same situation as me or they are about to be. Prior to my current homelessness I always kept a go-CCbag of sorts so that if the SHTF or I just needed to get away, I could just grab my bag and go. Although my walk across America last year ended abruptly, I had prepared for a homeless situation as I knew that's where I would end up when the walk was done.

Aside from some basics, there are a few things you should consider when preparing to be homeless. Things like gear, the location, resources, bus fare, a phone, and more.

This video is about preparing to be homeless in an ideal set of preparedness. Obviously not everyone has the money or time to get setup properly. Like when I got here to the PNW with only a few items and a spare hundred bucks. But this video should nevertheless provide insight what your life will look like in your new homeless situation.

When applying for EBT you need to have not worked for 30 days. Therefore you need to have access or money for food for that timeframe. Food pantries are available and you can get that information from the humane services office although the information may not be current.

You can also contact a free clinic where you can apply for health insurance. This will likely be completely free and no cost to you.

When scouting out a place for your campsot make sure you are reasonable Close to grocery, gym, pantry, bus route, and library

Also make preparations for the winter time if you can. When getting a sleeping bag, try and grab one for colder weather if you can but you can always double or triple up the cheaper 40 degree bags. Also a good thick camping pad can go a long way. Having thick socks, a coat, sweaters, gloves and a beanie.

You can try to prepare for everything, but that's just not possible. The most important thing is to maintain a good mental attitude. If you can work a job, that's the best way to stay sane while you are homeless. So though you may be living in a tent, you can do laundry and shower at a gym eat hot food regularly and maybe catch a movie now and again.

I hope this helps those of you who don't have a option for anything but becoming homeless and hopefully it will prepare you somewhat.

Peace.
