🚩 Hull geometry - Part 5
🔸 Maximum area section (Axc): largest underwater section area of the hull. For sailing yachts, it is usually located behind (aftward) the midship section.
🔸 Mass displacement: the mass of water displaced by the submerged part of the hull while floating.
🔸 Total mass displacement: the mass of water displaced by the submerged part of the hull plus all submerged appendages while floating.
🔸 Volume displacement: the volume of water displaced by the submerged part of the hull while floating.
🔸 Total volume displacement: the volume of water displaced by the submerged part of the hull plus all submerged appendages while floating.
🔸 Prismatic coefficient (Cp): ratio of the volume displacement to the volume of the circumscribed cylinder whose length is equal to LWL and its cross-section equal to the maximum area section of the hull Axc. It represents the fullness of the yacht. The fuller the ends, the larger the Cp.
