Hello Flower Friends! I'm Ellen. Sign up for my FREE weekly newsletter (https://www.ellenfrost.com/join-now) for more flower fun! I write flower profiles, chronicle my flower adventures and share flower stories. In this video I present my pro tips to make your flowers last. These are some easy ways to add days to your arrangement. Tip 1: Choose the right flowers. Not all varieties have the same vase life. If you're looking for longevity start by selecting flowers that are long lasting. (It sounds like Steve Martin's tip for becoming a millionaire - "first get a million dollars.") Some varieties naturally last longer after being cut. Also, inspect the flowers before you buy them. Check for any damage or wilting that may indicated they are old or may not last long. Tip 2: Initials care. Strip any leaves from the stems would be inside the vase or the water. Give the flowers a fresh cut with clean clippers. Finally, get your flowers into a clean vase with fresh water as soon as you can. These actions will best hydrate your flowers and reduce bacterial. Tip 3: Keep the flowers in their happy place. Cut flowers stay fresh in a cool space out of direct sunlight. Flowers need sunlight and warmth to grow, but after they're cut keep them cool and out of the sun for a long life. Tip 4: Maintain your flowers. Change the water and clean the vase every day. Yes - every day. Then, every few days, give the stems a quarter-inch cut. Remove any flower that dies to keep the other going. As the arrangement thins out you may need to switch up vases. Enjoy your flowers for weeks with these tips!
