Progressions Are Poor Workouts (That You Should Do Anyway)

Progression runs are often a staple workout among runners. But they're usually not the best way to build aerobic fitness. Despite that, I still recommend them! Coach Jason Fitzgerald shares why progression runs are typically not the best physiological stimulus for building endurance. These are runs where the pace gradually quickens over the duration of the workout, ultimately getting to 10k or lactate threshold pace. But even though they're not the most effective workouts, they are still useful in several training situations. If you're a beginner runner, someone who hasn't run many hard workouts lately, or a runner who wants to fine-tune their sense of pacing, you'll still want to include progression runs in your training!
