A team from Sandia and Idaho national laboratories has been studying different techniques to defend wind energy systems from adversaries using virtualized environments that represent wind hardware and networks. The team investigated the cost-benefit tradeoffs of incorporating different cyber security tools into power system control networks, such as encryption, access control, intrusion detection, security information and event management tools.
