After the fall of the Mauryan Empire, it was the Shunga Dynasty that emerged as one of the prominent players in post-Mauryan India. Pushyamitra Shunga, the brahmin General of the Mauryan Emperor, kills the Mauryan Emperor Brihadrath, seizing the throne. In this video, I talk about how Pushyamitra Shunga founded his empire and how the history of the Shunga dynasty unfolded. The question of whether Pushyamitra Shunga persecuted Buddhists, as it was portrayed in the Buddhist literature, is also discussed in this video.
