Springfield Armory has generated a lot of buzz in the handgun world with the SA-35, their take on the final gun design by John Moses Browning, the Hi-Power. Introduced in 1935, the Hi-Power is also called the "P35" or "GP35" - hence Springfield's "SA-35" moniker (GP = "grande puissance" or, in a not-quite-literal translation from French, "high capacity"). We suspect Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant was not afraid of "compare and contrast" test questions in school because he walks us through a comparison of the SA-35 to the original Hi-Power. He starts with the MAIN difference between the two guns..... sorry, no spoilers! The SA-35's fit and finish are excellent, with virtually no visible machining marks. The SA-35's magazine fits perfectly in Caleb's original Inglis Hi-Power, and the grips are interchangeable with original Hi-Power grips, too. Springfield upgraded the sights, opted for a Commander-style hammer, and included an extended safety (not ambi) that beats a lot of aftermarket Hi-Power safeties. AND Springfield deleted the magazine safety, much hated by Hi-Power fans for degrading the trigger pull. The SA-35's heavier trigger spring is actually good - Caleb explains why. Now, could somebody help us persuade him to give back the sample SA-35?
