What do you think of when you think of cinematography? There aren't necessarily wrong answers, but when we talk about good cinematography, I don't think we're always talking about good cinematography. We're talking about what we notice- what's loud and showy. But showy is not always good, and good is not always showy. So, let's talk about quiet cinematography. And let's use Yasujiro Ozu's 'Floating Weeds' as our example.
