There are a few vehicles in the country that are quintessentially South African. There are even fewer engines that fall into that same category.
Durban racer Kevin Moonsamy wanted to swap out the original engine from his Golf 1 and fit something worthy of the streets and drag strip. But it was never his intention to go the 6 cylinder route.
That was until his long-time friend and mechanic Trivolan Pather of Denzil's Auto suggested fitting the R32 motor in.
A BHE version of VW's masterpiece was slotted in as was a new clutch and suspension suited to handle the power.
On full meth, the car makes close to 200kw while on pump fuel it does 175kw and 320 nm.
Kervin accomplished his goal by taking the car down the 402m mark in 11.9 seconds during the Fwd shootout in August 2024 at Dezzi Raceway.
