With only 5 days left before the end of hedge cutting season, we are racing against Mother Nature to get all of the storm fallen trees caused by Storm Éowyn sawn up and all the ivy removed to prevent birds from nesting in locations which won't be safe.
With the intention of just piling up the willow whips into an area, we had no intention of making another dead hedge at the moment. As it happened, Dawn was able to create a new dead hedge and tidy up last years piles of Willow branches and willow whips to create a beautiful dead hedge securing the bottom of our land from the neighbouring field. With the fallen trees now fully cut down, all that is left is to tidy the huge piles of logs and ivy.
We were complete beginners at restoration, let alone a 110 year old farmhouse, also really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide we are still taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse.

A lot of people are searching for Irish cottage renovations and Irish cottage restorations but we can't fall under either of those due to our house being a farmhouse. We are leaning more towards restoration and conservation of our 110+ year old farmhouse than we are renovation but appreciate we can't not renovate and update some things that the once derelict farmhouse offers.
