सह्याद्रीच्या पठारावर भोर येथील श्री स्वयंभू रायरेश्वराच्या शिवालयात छ.शिवाजी महाराजांनी २७ एप्रिल १६४५ या दिवशी हिंदवी स्वराज्याच्या स्थापनेची शपथ घेतली. बारा मावळातील कान्होजी जेधे, बाजी पासलकर, तानाजी मालुसरे, सूर्याजी मालुसरे, येसाजी कंक, सूर्याजी काकडे, बापूजी मुदगल, नरसप्रभू गुप्ते, सोनोपंत डबीर ही मंडळी भोरच्या वातावरणात वावरणारी होती. सिंहाची छाती असणार्या या मावळ्यांना साथीला घेऊन छत्रपती शिवरायांनी स्वयंभू रायरेश्वराच्या साक्षीने स्वराज्याची आण घेतली.
