RAM Production, powerful truck assembly in secret billion dollar factory
he Ram 1500 is indeed produced at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This plant has a long history with Chrysler and now Stellantis, and it plays a key role in Ram truck production.
Here are some key facts about Ram 1500 production at Sterling Heights:
Production Start: SHAP began producing the Ram 1500 in 2018.
Investment and Expansion: Stellantis has invested significantly in the plant to support Ram 1500 production, including a $1.48 billion investment to retool for the next generation Ram 1500 and a recent $235.5 million investment to produce the electric Ram 1500 REV.
Electric and Hybrid Models: SHAP will also produce the all-new range-extended 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, alongside the traditional internal combustion engine models and the fully electric Ram 1500 REV. This makes it the first Stellantis plant in the U.S. to build a fully electric vehicle.
Capacity and Expansion to Mexico: As the Sterling Heights plant is expected to reach capacity with the addition of the REV and Ramcharger, Ram has confirmed it will begin building the 1500 in Mexico as well.
The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is a crucial part of Ram's manufacturing operations, and it's exciting to see it taking the lead in producing electric and hybrid versions of the popular Ram 1500.
