A few months ago, I made a video giving a rundown of every circuit Formula 1 has raced at since 1950. Having the covered the facts and history of them, I would be remiss if I didn’t take the chance to rank all of them, and I’m sure you want this too. “That’s why I’m here.” Now, people making tier lists of Formula 1 circuits is quite common, such as this one done by my DRS Train Podcast co-host: Nedzo’s F1 Grid Box. But tier lists are not very…linear. I’m going to attempt to tackle this, as I have with many other Formula 1-related topics, by making a defined order.
Compared to ranking cars or drivers, determining what makes a good circuit is a rather more subjective affair, as different people have different tastes, and the circuits themselves come in all shapes and sizes. For me, the general criteria I shall take into account for this are the circuit layout; driving challenge; overall quality of the races; notable historic moments that have taken place at that circuit; aesthetics, infrastructure and local geography; the spectator experience; and its historical impact on Formula 1.
