Re-Imagining Katy Perry's "Witness"
Katy Perry’s “Witness” is an album that divides fans and critics. We know the album wasn’t received too well and brought with it a lot of disagreement. While I won’t go into these issues in this video, as I’ve covered them in separate videos, we will be looking at the album’s rollout and what way it could have been improved.
The singles from the album, “Chained to the Rhythm”, “Bon Appetit” and “Swish Swish” are regarded by some as the reason this album suffered. If your singles don’t represent your album accurately in the eyes of the listener, they’re not going to be fully invested.
So in this video, we’re going to theoretically go back in time to the release of “Witness” and think of different single options or campaigns Katy could have used to reshape the era differently, attempting to offer it more success.
While this will be a lot of speculation and hypotheticals, let’s see if we can develop a realistic plan. Now, you may love the existing singles and be happy with the era as a whole, which is okay, and this video isn’t to say there’s one right way this album could have gone.
