According to the latest news from CBC Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, another strong winter storm swept in this Saturday, severely hitting Ontario, Canada and surrounding areas. The blizzard began to wreak havoc in the area on February 12 and lasted for several days.
On February 13, Eastern Ontario was covered in more than 20 centimetres of snow overnight. Even as of 11 a.m. Thursday, the Department of Environment's winter storm warning had not been lifted. The weather department predicts that there will be another 5 to 10 centimeters of snow before the storm eases.
According to statistics, from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday, police received nearly 40 accident reports and another 40 vehicles were stranded or broken down on the roadside. Schools were also forced to suspend classes, with St Lawrence College announcing it would be closed throughout Thursday.
The snow caused great inconvenience to the lives of local people. The Cornwall City Council announced that all municipal departments would be closed from 12 noon and shopping malls in the city center were deserted. However, bus services are still operating, but passengers are asked to allow more time.
And at the same time as the shutdown, there will be an even bigger snowstorm coming in the next few days. The meteorological department predicts 10 to 15 centimeters of snow will fall on Saturday and Sunday, with up to 20 centimeters possible on Sunday.
This is actually the third consecutive large-scale blizzard. From last Wednesday to Thursday, the Greater Toronto Area experienced a record-breaking snowfall, with snow accumulation reaching 26 cm, breaking the highest record since January 2022.
Despite repeated warnings in weather forecasts, every snowstorm is still an unsettling experience for these Canadians. Snow removal is difficult and tedious, and the heavy snow and low visibility on the roads make driving very dangerous.
