Born in 1929, Reid has has lived on Bainbridge Island since age 1. He is now 94 years old and loves to take folks for history tours around Bainbridge Island, WA. In this video, made during a 5 hour, July 2023, Senior Community Center bus tour, he describes what living was like back in the day on the island. He was in the 7th grade when his Japanese class mates and their families were forced off the island at gun point and sent to internment camps at the start of WW2. He talks about happier times growing up in Crystal Springs, the mosquito fleets, strawberry farms, the history of the Hall Brothers building 3, 4 and 5 masted sailing ships on the island back in the late 1800's, the creosote plant and the huge Blakely Harbor lumber mill.
Reid continues to volunteer at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum where he entertains visitors with his many stories.
