It has taken almost 16 months, and 17 episodes, but we have now completed the entire length of the historic Cromford & High Peak Railway. We started in August 2023 at High Peak Junction (not the one by the canal - the real one on the Midland Railway) and followed the 33+ miles to Whaley Bridge via foot and cycle. The first section from the Cromford Canal, through the Derwent Valley and Derbyshire Dales was via the High Peak Peak Trail. Taking in Sheep Pasture incline and engine house, Black Rocks high above Wirksworth, Middleton Incline & Middle Top, Hopton Tunnel, Hopton Incline, Longcliffe, Minninglow, Friden and through to Parsley Hay. We left the trail at Hurdlow as we then followed the original 1832 route across the limestone plateau, skirting high above the spa town of Buxton and dropping down Bunsall & Shallcross inclines into Whaley Bridge and the wharf on the Peak Forest Canal. It has been an incredible journey with spectacular engineering on show, beautiful countryside and historic industrial remains. What have been your highlights of this series?
