Building in a tiny space, storage and functionality are paramount when it comes to furniture. A bed cant just be for sleeping, it should also offer storage. I shopped around quite a lot for a bed frame with good storage, but couldn't find anything even close, so the next step was to build one. Planning it out in my mind, it seemed like it would be fairly straightforward, and once the tools and supplies hit the floor, we were rolling along. I knew I wanted shelves at the head and foot of the bed, and storage underneath. The under storage did not work out like I had hoped, but that is a problem which only requires a creative solution in the future. As for the shelves, I think they came out really great. While traveling, I did not let myself collect souvenirs, because I simply did not have room for them. With the introduction of a home base, I wanted to make sure there would be places for foreign collections, and I think that the bed shelves will offer exactly that. Moving over to the work station, I wanted something very comfortable and functional, but also nice to look at. I spend tens of hours every week editing, so a work station was of utmost importance with this build. I was so happy to find Acacia from Vietnam for my top, and was able to utilize 1x6 scraps from the bed to use as the base. This one was a pretty easy build, so it almost feels wrong that it came out so nice, but I am very happy with the final product. The clear-coat on top soaked in beautifully, and after three coats and some light sanding, I was left with a perfect finish. I was happy to see that the top coat also darkened the wood nicely, and it fits the aesthetic of the room perfectly.
