The Equinox and Terrain platforms are known for having timing problems, so when my check engine light came on on my winter beater I was ready for the worst.. and a few weeks later had my fears confirmed when my shop told me that the P0017 was going to mean that the motor needed to be torn down and rebuilt for the sum total of $7000

I had them replace the solenoid that was throwing the error for $500 but that didn't solve it.. so I took it back. To be thorough I then replaced the other solenoids and noticed that the sensors, including the one that was throwing the error, were original. Sensors are cheap, so I bought and swapped them in my garage.. and fixed the problem.

So - if you are dealing with a VVT issue, before you put in all the money - TRY THIS. It saved me over $6000 and might do the same for you.
