CPAP devices deliver a steady, continuous stream of pressurized air to a patient's airways to keep them open during sleep. CPAP is the most common treatment for all types of sleep apnea, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), central sleep apnea (CSA), and mixed sleep apnea.
BiPAP devices, on the other hand, provide two levels of air pressure: a higher pressure when the patient inhales and a lower pressure when they exhale. This dual pressure setting is especially helpful for patients who have difficulty tolerating the continuous pressure from a CPAP machine or for those with certain types of respiratory disorders, heart conditions, or other illnesses that make breathing difficult.
