Hello folks! Today I have a restoration of a very old Bowie knife. The knife is so rust! In some places, the blade has become thinner than a leaf. But, he got into the right hands and I will bring him back. Let's start the restoration!
The first thing I did manually was to remove the rust layer. Then he placed it in a jar and filled it with a rust remover, then washed, dried and treated the surface of the wire iron brush.
Then, with of a sanding machine, I corrected the cutting edge and the shape of the Bowie knife. Also made new bevels. The surface was lightly sanded, polished and degreased completely. Then he etched the blade in a solution of nitric acid. I really wanted to preserve the texture of the blade surface as much as possible. I did it.
Next, the handle of the knife, I made according to the classics using a deer horn. For the padding, I used mahogany wood and leather.
The sheath for the knife was made of genuine thick leather. And I did a very interesting Bowie knife test. The steel turned out to be wonderful! I hope you enjoy this restoration video.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
