Fate was kind to me and gave me the chance to crew on a Hunter 460 sailboat from Ketchikan, Alaska, to Port Townsend, Washington with its new owner. Friends of mine in Juneau sold this beloved Hunter sailboat to someone in Ketchikan and then recommended me for passage making. I then contacted my friend Rick, newly retired, and he agreed with the owners consent to come along.
We sailed day and night for almost 5 days and covered 500 miles sailing downwind at speeds up to 8.5 knots, crossing shipping lanes and dodging larger vessels. The food was excellent and included locally sourced moose steaks among other things. The seas were predictable and the weather routing via Predict Wind was spot on. Jump onboard for this exciting adventure!
