Candlestick Park FACTS
1- Originally known as Harney Stadium 1956-1959 (land owner & general contractor of stadium Charles Harney)
2- 1970-1978 Field was ASTROTURF
3- Richard Nixon threw out first pitch of Giants first season (1960)
4- Oakland Raiders (1960-61) played games at Candlestick before 49ers did (1971) when they were at Kezar Stadium
5- In 1999, Candlestick was set to host Super Bowl 33 (it went to Miami), was taken away by NFL due to improvements that didn’t happen
6- Candlestick's light stands were tallest in North American pro sports
7- Candlestick stood for 50+ years but only hosted ONE college football game. In 2011, Cal plays Fresno State (Berkeley's Memorial Stadium was under construction)
8- First pro stadium across North America that was built from reinforced concrete
9- During the 1961 MLB All Star Game, Pitcher Stu Miller was infamously blown off the mound
10- Candlestick hosts the Beatles final concert: Aug 29, 1966… and Paul McCartney's final concert Aug 14, 2014
