Poor AM Radio reception on NuTone Intercom Systems is a common problem in many homes.
One source of this problem is Radio Frequency (RF) interference from different types of lighting. Especially the new types of LED lighting.
In this Video I demonstrate how the ballast in fluorescent lighting interferes with AM reception by causing a loud hum or buzz on the radio of a NuTone IM4006
I discuss the problem that old, low-cost dimmer switches can cause and offer some basic troubleshooting to find the source of the RF Interference.
Contrary to a common idea, there is no "magic filter" that will eliminate the RF interference. The problem must be addressed at the source of the problem.
