Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen are releasing their second Smith/Kotzen studio album, Black Light / White Noise, on April 4th via BMG.
The duo joined forces in 2021 for their monumental self-titled debut album and then released the Better Days…and Night EP in 2022, comprised of four new studio songs and five powerful live songs. Black Light / White Noise finds them building upon the strong foundation of what they previously established, with contrasting yet complementary playing styles intertwining seamlessly, trading vocals, leads, and infectious riffs.
This album is an electrifying sonic journey with diverse songs from the hard rocking blues opening track, "Muddy Waters," to the swaggering "Blindsided," to the soulfully "Heavy Weather," to the very heavy of "Life Unchained." All songs highlight the duo's versatility, effortlessly weaving together elements of blues, hard rock, and R&B. These songs are masterfully crafted, with modern production to create a timeless and fresh sound. Throughout the album, Adrian and Richie push each other to new heights as their dynamic and spontaneous interplay make it seem like the music is being born in the moment.

Correspondent Robert Cavuoto spoke with Richie as he reflected on the excitement surrounding the release of their new album. He shared how the creative process for Black Light / White Noise was a relaxed, free-flowing experience without any time pressures, which allowed for organic songwriting. Richie highlighted the seamless partnership with Adrian, noting their shared love for classic rock acts such as Bad Company as the foundation for their collaboration. He also shared how they typically write together; despite the rare instance of a remote collaboration, the duo primarily works in person, enjoying the creative process together over coffee and tea.
As for future touring plans for the duo, Richie mentioned that while there are no touring plans in 2025 due to Iron Maiden's schedule, he does hope to play together live in 2026. He will undoubtedly schedule a solo tour of the U.S. this year. He closed the interview with personal reflections about the challenges of living through wildfires that ravaged parts of California months ago and how they've reshaped his perspective on life, preparedness, and safety.
