Riding a real deal Moser (made be Ugo De Rosa himself) Sanson team bike ridden by Leonardo Mazzantini in 1980 in support of Francesco Moser himself...
Now this is a seriously cool bike, from the height of Italian dominance in the pro team peloton, frame building and the coolest riders. This is the real deal, handbuilt by the master frame builder Ugo De Rosa (who only built team bikes himself at that point, leaving regular bikes to his staff), built for time trialist, sprinter and domestique Leonardo Mazzantini for the Sanson Team riding for the legend of Italian Cycling Francesco Moser.
In this video we take a look at the frame and bike in detail, before jumping on and trying to convey the nuances of this bike and just how well it rides, before being marauded by a bunch of vintage Lambretta Scooters!
We talk about the career of Leonardo Mazzantini, his close second place a stage 1 of the `80 Giro D`Italia to Beppe Saronni on this very bike, plus touch on Francesco Moser and his battle against Laurent Fignon in `84, aided by a helicopter...
***Note 1 - I have no idea why the camera angle tilted in the opening section, must have been a software reaction to wind movement***
***Note 2 - should have said 14g spoke width not 14mm, that would be a hefty spoke...***
