Roasting Isn't That Hard. People have been turning green coffee brown for centuries without the use of technical machinery, software programs, or cupping forms. With the tools available to us today, if you understand a few core concepts and master a few skills, you can roast coffee with ease and confidence. But roasting also is not that easy - the world of roasting is full of complicated concepts, technical jargon, and plenty of opposing opinions about the best ways to roast coffee. It takes time to learn these concepts and develop roasting skills. It takes time and practice to become a knowledgeable about green, to control your machine, and to develop your palate. This is a recording of the lecture I gave at Madrid Coffee Festival on Feb 17, 2025. I wrote this presentation specifically for this event, but I think the concepts are solid so I plan to develop these ideas further in the future. So keep an eye out for more related content!
