Warning: serious ABBA vibes.
Upon hearing Goldfrapp's "Head First" in 2010, portions of the song reminded me of the scenes of Megaroad-01 lifting off from the Macross: Flashback 2012 OVA. I also immediately felt that the song would be an excellent candidate for the song that Lynn Minmei/Minmay sings to defeat the Zentraedi in a live action version of Macross or Robotech. Nearly 10 years later (thanks to the current pandemic), I now finally had the time to bring this vision to life.
Not to mention: The final battle between Dolza's fleet and the RDF took place in 2010 according to the story - the same year that Goldfrapp's song "Head First" was released.
Robotech/Macross has always been about the power of love. And at the heart of the original Macross story is the love triangle between Hikaru Ichijo (Rick Hunter), Misa Hayase (Lisa Hayes) and Lynn Minmay (Lynn Minmei). What I love about the mythology of the Macross: Do You Remember Love film is that Lisa is the one who transcribes the song to give to Minmei to sing, and so in the end with Rick personally defeating Dolza, Minmei singing, and Lisa having provided the song, it took all three of them to win the war and save humanity as well as the Zentraedi who joined them. And it was all spawned from the power of love. All three of them threw themselves "head first" in love. And in the end, it conquered seemingly insurmountable odds.
