Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. The Mirandese language is a Romance language spoken in northeastern Portugal, primarily in the region of Miranda do Douro. It belongs to the Astur-Leonese branch of the Iberian languages and shares similarities with Asturian and Leonese but is distinct from Portuguese, the country's dominant language. Mirandese has co-official status in its region, recognized by Portuguese law since 1999, which protects and promotes its use in education, public signage, and cultural activities. Although it has a small number of speakers, estimated at around 15,000, Mirandese is a vibrant symbol of local identity and heritage, celebrated through literature, music, and community traditions. Extremaduran is a Romance language spoken primarily in the Extremadura region of western Spain, as well as in some adjacent areas of Castilla y León. It is part of the Astur-Leonese linguistic group and shares many features with neighboring languages like Leonese and Mirandese in Portugal. Often overshadowed by Castilian Spanish, it is considered a minority language and faces challenges related to intergenerational transmission and official recognition. Extremaduran is typically divided into three dialectal varieties: Northern, Central, and Southern, with Northern Extremaduran retaining the most distinctive features. Despite its precarious status, efforts to preserve and promote the language are ongoing through cultural organizations, literature, and digital initiatives. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
