Ruby Franke, once a prominent family vlogger, gained widespread attention through her YouTube channel "8 Passengers," where she showcased the daily lives of her husband Kevin and their six children. The channel, launched in 2015, amassed over 2.5 million subscribers at its peak, drawn to their portrayal of a wholesome family life.
The situation escalated when Ruby partnered with Jodi Hildebrandt, a counselor and founder of the mental health organization ConneXions. Under Hildebrandt's influence, Ruby's parenting practices became increasingly severe, leading to the isolation and mistreatment of her children. In August 2023, the alarming reality came to light when Ruby's 12-year-old son escaped from Hildebrandt's home, appearing emaciated and with visible injuries. Authorities discovered another child, also malnourished, prompting the arrest of both Ruby and Jodi on multiple counts of aggravated child abuse.
In February 2024, both women were convicted and sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to 30 years. Ruby's husband, Kevin, filed for divorce and sought custody of their remaining minor children, who were placed under the care of Utah's Division of Child and Family Services.
