Run-ons in English Grammar and Syntax | Identifying and Fixing Run-On Sentences

What are run-ons in English, and how can you identify them? In this English syntax lesson, you'll learn all about run-on sentences and comma splices. These are sentences that have two or more ideas joined the wrong way. They can be short or long.

I'll teach you common misconceptions about run-ons and how to use punctuation and conjunctions to correct these English errors. You'll also learn that not all long sentences are run-ons. You can fix run-on sentences by separating them into two complete sentences with a period or full stop. You can also add a comma plus a coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).

If the independent clauses are closely related, you can add a semicolon to connect them. There's an 8-question quiz at the end to test what you've learned.
