Kristin used follow the typical, high carbohydrate, low fat, diet for long distance running She was eating exactly what our current dietary guidelines recommend. She fueled with bagels, rice cakes, chicken, fish, and lots of vegetables. Kristin states she felt hungry all the time, and she found herself eating small meals 6-10 times a day.
Over time, she noticed that her running performance was suffering. On a business trip oversees, she suffered severe edema (swelling), and fatigue. Her edema became so profound that she was admitted to a hospital. In the hospital, she was diagnosed with severe anemia.
