Russia could say no and push for more but if there's a peace deal Trump might deserve the Nobel Prize; meanwhile India can delay reciprocal tariffs: Senior Advisor at USIP, Daniel Markey, to Karan Thapar for The Wire.

In an interview to discuss both the prospects of a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine and India’s hopes of averting reciprocal tariffs, one of the United States top analysts has said: “I can still imagine Russia saying no and pushing for more” although Daniel Markey adds that if there is a ceasefire agreement followed by a peace deal President Trump could be a serious contender for the Nobel Peace Prize and “might even deserve it”.
In a 18-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Daniel Markey, who is Senior Advisor on the South Asia Programme of the United States Institute of Peace, also spoke at length about India’s hopes of averting reciprocal tariffs by enthusiastically working towards a bilateral trade agreement and said that he believes “India can delay reciprocal tariffs”.
In the interview, Dr. Markey spoke about the likelihood America might push for easier access to the Indian market for US agricultural produce, about concerns that increased tariffs would make Indian-made generic medicines (which are nearly 50% of all medicines sold in the US) both more expensive and less available for the American people and about the extent to which the Trump Administration will be impressed if Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal were to make a second visit to the United States this month with a revised list of tariff reductions. The Business Standard has reported (12/3) that this is a possibility.
I deliberately won’t tell you what Dr. Markey said in response to these issues. You must see the interview and find out for yourself.
There is also a lot about the prospects of a ceasefire and peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as well as the question can a minerals deal provide the security Ukraine wants when its well-known that the presence of the American oil industry in Kuwait in 1990 did not restrain Saddam Hussein. Again, you need to see the interview to find out what Dr. Markey says in response to these issues.
