To celebrate the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, welcome to Archives New Zealand's Rustic Cinema. For your viewing pleasure, we have curated four programmes with film excerpts from the National Film Unit and other government agencies which showcase how we saw ourselves and how we wanted the world to see us.

Te Whanganui a Tara. Duration: 26mins.
This programme is all about the best little capital city in Aotearoa. You're gonna be blown away like a weather balloon at the sight of our beloved city before the road cone and random water feature became the city’s emblems. Witness a high stakes rescue at the Wellington Fireman's School and a music loving goldfish. Discover why you've been doing your lawn mowing wrong all these years and find out why a three-year-old shouldn’t be left in charge of the road-marking. For the sci-fi lovers we have a 9ft 6” robot and an unexpected twist!
