Naming a best ski resort in Japan is a big claim, but Rusutsu continuously makes into peoples favourite ski area. Preferences will vary for each person, depending on the type of terrain they like to ride and type of resort they prefer. However since we arrived at Rusutsu it has been an amazing and surreal experience.
The first thing you notice when arriving is a theme park, rollercoasters with loops and a ski resort spread out over many mountains including a gondola over the highway to take you from the east to west side of the resort. The inside of the resort is filled with some wacky theme park features and attractions, and the architecture is not traditional in the slightest. There aren't many really steep areas on the mountain and the peaks generally max out under 1000m, which considered globally is very low.
Having said that there is something about the resort that is very intriguing. The spacing of the trees is perfect, and if you have been snowboarding in Japan you will notice that even resort to resort the vegetation and spacing varies drastically, and in my opinion this has to take the cake, at least from the ones I have seen so far.
