Another day for I HUNT DEAD THINGS as we headed out with Bryan from Next Level Fossiling to one of my favorite areas. The day was instantly great when I came across a section of the river with mammoth teeth and jaw. With what was a $1000 dollar discovery we could have packed up and gone home happy. And why risk diving in the water with Alligators during mating season anyway right? Well, we kept at it, and I found several nice specimens such as Glyptodon Scutes, Giant Armadillo Scutes, and Horse Teeth to add to our Ice Age Mammoth find. We came across several smaller Megalodon Teeth as well, the nicest of which is being given away to one of our viewers. Then I came across what appeared to be a broken Giant Sloth tooth underwater, but only when I got out of water did Bryan see it and say, hold up, that's a section of Saber Tooth Tiger Canine! This is an epic find for any Florida fossil hunter, and it had me smiling from ear to ear the rest of the day. Perhaps because of the adrenaline, somehow, I lost the Saber Tooth. I was torn apart. I couldn't sleep that night so I decided to come back out to see if I had somehow flung it off the boat at some point. I honestly did not think I would end up finding the section of tooth and thought it would haunt me the rest of my life. That day, the river was absolutely loaded with alligators, making diving alone extra risky. I found my spot and slipped into the water. Within just a few minutes I found the section again! The relief changed my entire mood and this would no longer haunt me. I decided to check the area some more and came across another section! The tip of the Saber Tooth! So I have 2 sections and I'm hoping to find the remaining 2 sections in upcoming hunts. I took a break from the area and jumped in another spot and came away with 12 megalodon teeth in the span of 1 Nomad battery (our dive hookah of choice). The water at that spot was over the 10 foot mark so we had to move from the Nemo to the Nomad.
