Navratri, a significant Hindu festival observed over nine days, derives its name from the Sanskrit words "nav" meaning nine and "ratri" meaning night. At its core, Navratri is a celebration of the various incarnations of the Goddess Durga, epitomizing divine feminine energy who embodies the traits of power, purity and divinity.
Devotees seek her blessings for prosperity, happiness, and protection during this auspicious period. The Navratri festival also symbolizes the victory of good over evil, harking back to the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. This victory is a powerful metaphor for the prevalence of light over darkness and the ultimate conquest of righteousness over malevolence.
Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a specific form of the Goddess Durga, collectively known as Navadurga. Fasting, meditation, prayers, and self-reflection are common practices during this time, aimed at purifying the mind, body, and soul.
