Samarth Nagarkar performs the early morning raga Bhairav. Raga Bhairav is known to be one of the oldest ragas and carries a rather heavy, sombre mood, introspective, meditative and with shades of intense devotion and deep ecstatic love that is beyond articulation. Presented in the traditional Gwalior gharana style this rendition explored the raga through a brief opening alaap, a vilambit (slow tempo) composition in 16 beat tala Tilwada, a medium paced composition and a fast (drut) tarana in teentaal (also 16 beats). This was performed for an exclusive audience of highly accomplished musicians at a musicians' retreat in the Catskills NY in July 2019. Tabla accompaniment by Meghashyam Keshav, Harmonium accompaniment by Kedar Naphade. Tanpura support by Andre Fludd.
