Saturday: 49ers trade Deebo Samuel to the Commanders for a 5th round pick and the Commanders take on all of Deebo’s salary.
- This saves the 49ers $17.5 million
- Why was the value so low? Why only a 5th round pick? The Commanders fleeced the 49ers! False - Deebo was coming off a career worst season AND Washington is taking on all of his salary. I thought the BEST case scenario was getting a 4th. Niners get a 5th
- Why did the Commanders make this move? Top 5 in cap space this offseason. Jayden Daniels is on his rookie contract. Commanders needed a no. 2 and another playmaker AND Commanders have familiarity with the player
- Deebo asked for a fresh start. He gets it. The 49ers want to get younger, clear up some cap room and THEY can use a fresh start. The Niners get what they were looking for as well
The question now becomes: What do the 49ers do at wide receiver going into 2025?
- Wide receiver room right now: Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Ricky Peardsall, Jacob Cowing
- Wide receiver becomes a need now in the NFL Draft and / or in NFL Free Agency
- Ricky Pearsall is a player who NEEDS to step up after the Deebo trade and I don’t think the 49ers make this move if they DON’T feel good about Pearsall moving forward
- Pearsall flashes: 4 for 73 and a TD vs. Buccaneers, long TD run, game-winning drive
- 8 for 141 vs. Detroit, 1 TD - contested on Brian Branch
- 6 for 69 vs. Arizona, 1 TD - contested catch
- Footwork, route running, good hands, little small - concern, late in the year, did get behind the defense a couple of times
After the Deebo Samuel trade, a player In the NFL Draft, who I’ve become VERY intrigued by is Savion Williams out of TCU
- 6’4’’, 222 lbs., 4.48 40-yard dash - His 4.48 40-yard dash was the fastest of any offensive prospect his size or larger at this year’s combine!
- 60 catches, 611 yards, 6 receiving TD, 51 carries, 322 lbs.
- Also had 51 carries, for 322 and 6 rushing TD
- If you’re looking for a Deebo replacement, that’s the guy right there
- 49ers met formally with him and he said he’s been told he’d be a great fit with San Francisco
