Yes! You can set up your own satellite ground station, collect satellite related data, and contribute to the important work satellite teams, across the globe, are doing every day! I met up with Dan White, of Libre Space Foundation, at Dayton Hamvention and he took some time to explain what SatNOGS is, how it works, what's required, and how simple it is to set up your own satellite ground station. Libre Space Foundation's SatNOGS project, provides the blueprint and documentation for you to build your ground station from scratch. They provide the software, identify accessible hardware, and manage the infrastructure for citizen scientists to get involved in satellite related sciences. Libre Space Foundation's vision statement, "Our Vision is an Open and Accessible Outer Space for all. We believe that space should be claimed the libre (open source) way.", is something I think we can all get behind. They are carrying the torch for open source space technologies and they are providing accessible and meaningful ways for those interested to get involved.
