Schimanski's colleague and friend, Inspector Hollai, who worked underground as an undercover agent for three years, has been "burned" - the other side has learned that he is a police officer - and is now returning to the police service. He has heard of a million dollar thing being planned - a cash transport is to be robbed. He is working on the case together with Schimanski.
Schimanski notices how difficult it is for his friend to give up his assumed existence as a criminal and to get used to the everyday grind and the office work of normal police service. He increasingly suspects that Hollai is still in contact with the other side, and that he also has a hand in the planned million-dollar deal. The date on which the attack is supposed to take place is getting closer and closer.
