This year for my birthday, I designed and sewed a scrap-buster, patchwork linen skirt, with homemade copper buttons from leftover pipe, a pair of fringe-y leather boot cuffs, and silver / copper jewelry made from the 'waste' by-product of copper rivets. Sewn on my German made zig-zag / straight stitch Meister Klasse 101, and my beautiful mint green Singer 185k stepped in for the buttonholes.
