I love scrap fabric and I love qayg (quilt as you go) so combining the two to make a dent in my stash makes for the perfect project! Another project finished for my 2025 Year of the Making. I’m using a bag of scrap quilting fabric that I bought from an op shop. I think it may have cost $2, so a cheap way to buy fabric! I’m also using scrap interfacing for structure and old unloved fabric for the lining. What am I making? Oh! Yes, I’m sewing a beginner friendly, scrappy quilted tote bag. Not quite a sewing tutorial but it's perfect sewing for beginners for a fun, easy quilt as you go ideas and I show my super secret sewing tips to make qayg so easy! There are sewing hacks, sewing tips and tricks for those new to sewing, for those needing teachers gifts, Christmas gifts, birthday gifts. It's perfect for those new to sewing and it's all done on a domestic sewing machine (Janome sewing machine). It would also make a great table cloth or table cover. I love making these with scrap fabric, so it's like a mini scrap quilt or crazy quilt, perfect for scrap fabric sewing projects. You could also use precuts for this too and it's perfect for jelly rolls scraps so you can make a truly unique jelly roll quilt! As it is quilted as you go, you don't need binding (like you'd normally bind a quilt) for this as each hexie is finished perfectly with a self-enclosed binding then joined on & on to whatever size you want: a coaster, a placemat, a table runner, a table cloth, a picnic blanket, a throw quilt, a single bed (twin) quilt, double bed quilt, queen size quilt, king size quilt! It's absolutely great quilting with scraps of fabric. It's the perfect project for a scrap batik fabric or any low volumn fabric, treasured Tula Pink fabric or Tilda fabrics.Make it your own with fabric design with the scrap fabric. diy fabric ideas with woven fabric and knit fabric too (lycra fabric) It's also the perfect introduction for qayg which is short for quilt as you go, so you'll be doing this quilt as you for beginners in no time! After you've finished making this mini quilt panel (hexagons), you may be ready for an actual quilt and you should totally check out the channels Missouri Star Quilt Company, Donna Jordan quilt tutorials aka Jordan Quilts or even Debbie Shore sewing tutorials Happy sewing!
