She Wants Revenge's music has established a category on its own combining dance punk, electronic rock, darkwave and gothic rock. Some of their influences are Joy Division, Bauhaus and Depeche Mode.
Their Northern California show was the third leg set for the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. The hall dates back to 1907 and was originally designed by a French architect. In 1972 the building was refurbished and maintains the decorative balconies, columns and frescoes. The holding capacity is a mere 470, thus assuring the concert goer an upfront intimate experience. The first level floor is where the stage, merch booth, bar and standing room only. Upstairs resides the V.I.P. seating that wraps around the balcony for spectacular comfort and visibility. In addition there are some pub style tables and stools for general admission.
Arriving early to the venue and awaiting my press credentials, I noticed the tour bus was parked in front. Within a half hour both Justin and Adam came out to greet the fans that purchased V.I.P. tickets. The fans received a SWR tote bag, some CD's that both members autographed, and then took a group photo. This was a heartfelt moment seeing the musicians give back to their fans. First star of the night!
The line started to form down the block on this beautiful Saturday evening. Most fans were dressed in black, some heavier on the goth side while others exposed more skin. SWR clearly captivates an array of fans from all walks of life and musical influences. There was even a young man standing next to me that stated this was his first show, and he was in for a treat!
