Did you know you don't need shiny to add check boxes, drop-down fields and sliders to explore your data visually and interactively in R? While shiny is without a doubt a great tool to have in your toolbox, one downside is that it requires R to run the app - be it on a local machine or on a server.
Here we use plotly in combination with the crosstalk package (both created by Carson Sievert) to select subgroups of data, zoom in via sliders, and select individual data points from a drop down menu to make visual comparisons. The resulting HTML file offers its full functionality independently of R once it is created. So you can host it on a website without a server-based R installation or send it to a colleague who doesn't use R.
Presentation based on flexdashboard.
