SHREDucation tips for snowboarders and snowboard instructors.
Ready to head in to the park? Or maybe looking to progress? A quick look at how Novice and Intermediate pressure timing in turns can also be helpful into our park riding as well.
In novice turns: a snowboarder gradually flexes lower throughout the entire arc of their turn to control pressure and maintain stability, followed by a quick short extension back up to neutral that creates a small "unweight" moment at the end of the turn.
In Intermediate turns: the snowboarder flexes down through the first half of the turn, then gradually rises up through the rest of the turn. This gradually builds more pressure through the entire arc due to both flexion/extension as well as speed and turn shape. The energy is naturally released when the rider reached their maximum desired extension and the result is less of an abrupt (but often more powerful) unweight.
